Nobalisa Mentor preparing for National Literacy Week

Literacy Month is a time to celebrate the power of reading, storytelling, and learning, and this year, our Nobalisa Program was at the heart of the celebrations. From National Book Week to International Literacy Day, learners, teachers, and parents came together to make it a month full of joy, creativity, and learning in our rural communities.

From Day 1 of September, classrooms and community spaces were buzzing with energy. Our learners participated in engaging storytelling sessions, reading circles, and fun literacy games that sparked curiosity and a love for books. The week was a perfect blend of laughter, learning, and excitement as young readers explored the world of stories.

Celebrating Literacy

Our Literacy Clubs were a standout highlight of the month. These clubs have become vibrant hubs where children discover new worlds through books, develop reading confidence, and build essential literacy skills. Each story shared and every page turned contributes to nurturing curious, confident learners who carry their love of reading far beyond the classroom.

The month also featured our much-loved annual bilingual spelling competitions. Nervous excitement soon turned into pride as learners demonstrated their impressive spelling skills, impressing teachers, literacy coaches, and peers. These competitions showcase the progress learners achieve through consistent support and focused literacy programs.

We are proud that the Nobalisa Program has been featured in The Learning Trust’s Learning Brief for our commitment to the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. This recognition highlights the impact of tailored literacy interventions that meet learners where they are, helping every child make meaningful progress.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our learners, parents, and teachers. Your support helps create spaces where young minds thrive, planting the seeds for lifelong reading habits and stronger, more literate rural communities.

Literacy Month has been more than a celebration; it has been a reminder of the power of books, storytelling, and learning in transforming the lives of rural learners. As Axium, we remain committed to ensuring every learner leaves school with purpose, agency, and options for the future.
